English: What have I done with my life? What am I still not doing with it? And why are strange people watching? In their second album Monster in me Gahzed present a bunch of nine protest songs against resignation. The art of pop music: finding new images to make the important feelings come alive again (otherwise one love song in the world would be enough). And this is exactly what gahzed make happen in this album.

Having left their purely electronic past of Monomatikbehind, the follow-up project Gahzed developed their music to a more indietronic-ish sound with their first release We’ll turn into gold. Now they have finally broken all chains of concerns about subcultural wherebouts and present their second album Monster in me.

Electronic beats have been replaced by a real drum set, number and amount of guitars have expanded significantly, but nonetheless this album is not at all so-called indie. It perfectly combines this band-like approach with particles of electronic music. Juicy Hip-Hop beats as in Too good to be true, noisy soundscapes as in At the clouds, psychadelic delay patterns as in Hello incect – it’s all there! And it all joins together to an album filled with nine great songs of melancholy and anger – both at the same time.

Monster in me makes a superb independent album in the sense of „Remember when indie was actually independent?“ So, take a shot for your life – there are four lights!

Deutsch: Was habe ich mit meinem Leben angefangen? Was fange ich noch immer nicht mit ihm an? Und warum beobachten mich fremde Menschen dabei? In ihrem zweiten Album Monster in me präsentieren Gahzed ein Bündel von neun Protestsongs gegen die Resignation. Die Kunst der Popmusik: finde neue Bilder, um wichtige Gefühle erneut fühlbar zu machen (sonst wäre ein Liebeslied auf der Welt auch genug). Und das ist, was gahzed mit diesem Album auf wunderbare Weise gelingt.

Nachdem sie ihre sehr elektronische Vergangenheit des Projektes Monomatik hinter sich gelassen hatten, entwickelten Gahzed ihre Musik mit dem ersten Album We’ll turn into gold zu einem deutlich indietronic-eskeren Sound. Mit dem zweiten Album Monster in me brechen sie jetzt endgültig mit Bedenken über subkulturelle Verortungen.

Elektronische Beats wurden durch ein echtes Schlagzeug ersetzt, der Anteil an Gitarren hat deutlich zugenommen, und doch ist dieses Album alles andere als sogenannter Indie. Es kombiniert auf wunderbare Weise bandhaften Charakter mit Partikeln elektronisch produzierter Musik. Hip-hop-artige Beats wie in Too good to be true, krachige Flächen wie in At the clouds, psychedelische Delay-Patterns wie in Hello indect – es ist alles da! Und es trifft auf einem Album zusammen, das mit neun großartigen Songs von Melancholie und Wut gleichermaßen gefüllt ist.

So wird Monster in me zu einem perfekten Independent-Album im Sinne von „Erinnerst du dich, als Indie noch independent war?“ Also: take a shot for your life – there are four lights!
